TLDR PRP treatment helps hair growth and rebalances scalp bacteria in androgenetic alopecia patients.
The study examined the impact of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment on the scalp microbiota of 14 androgenetic alopecia (AGA) patients over six months. PRP treatment resulted in significant hair growth and changes in microbial populations, with an increase in Cutibacterium and a decrease in Staphylococcus, suggesting a shift towards a healthier scalp microbiota. Although alpha and beta diversity analyses showed no significant differences, specific bacterial groups like Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, and Actinobacteriota exhibited changes in relative abundance. The study highlights PRP's effectiveness in treating AGA and the potential role of scalp microbiota in its development and treatment, warranting further research to understand these mechanisms.
