TLDR Quercetin nanocrystal gel shows promise for hair regrowth in androgenetic alopecia.
The study investigates the development of a quercetin nanocrystal gel (QT-NC gel) as a novel topical treatment for androgenetic alopecia (AGA). By enhancing the transdermal delivery of quercetin, the QT-NC gel significantly improved skin penetration and retention compared to traditional formulations. In a dihydrotestosterone-induced AGA mouse model, the gel demonstrated significant hair regrowth, reduced DHT levels, and increased hair coverage and diameter, comparable to minoxidil. The combination of quercetin and glycyrrhizic acid showed synergistic effects, suggesting QT-NC gel as a promising therapeutic strategy for AGA with potential for clinical application. Further studies are needed to explore follicular targeting mechanisms and conduct clinical trials.
