TLDR Microneedles improve drug delivery for skin diseases, enhancing treatment effectiveness and patient compliance.
Microneedle (MN) technology offers a promising approach for treating various skin diseases, including androgenetic alopecia (AGA), acne, scars, melanoma, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and vitiligo, by enhancing transdermal drug delivery. MNs create micro-channels in the skin, allowing efficient delivery of therapeutic agents, which improves treatment efficacy and patient compliance. For AGA, MNs loaded with finasteride nanocrystals and cerium dioxide nano-enzymes have shown improved hair regrowth in mouse models. In acne treatment, MNs with photosensitizers and antimicrobial agents effectively reduce inflammation and bacterial growth. The document highlights the potential of MNs in providing targeted, minimally invasive treatments, though challenges like material optimization and production scale-up remain.

A user with aggressive male pattern baldness found that topical melatonin significantly reduced their hair shedding to 1 or 2 hairs per day and noticed some thickening of side hair. They tried many treatments like finasteride and minoxidil with little success, but topical melatonin showed immediate results in reducing hair loss.
