TLDR Diet can influence inflammatory skin diseases.
The narrative review examined the role of nutrition in immune-mediated inflammatory skin diseases, including alopecia areata, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and others. It found that while dietary habits were believed to influence these conditions, scientific evidence was not definitive. For psoriasis, weight reduction improved disease severity, and a gluten-free diet benefited those with celiac disease. In atopic dermatitis, dietary restrictions often led to growth issues without symptom improvement. The review highlighted potential benefits of certain supplements and dietary changes, such as vitamin D for alopecia areata and reducing dairy for hidradenitis suppurativa, but emphasized the need for further research to confirm these effects. Overall, it suggested that nutrition could be a complementary strategy in managing these skin conditions.
