TLDR Higher IL-31 levels are linked to worse itching in chronic kidney disease patients.
The study investigated the serum level of interleukin-31 (IL-31) in patients with chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus (CKD-aP). It aimed to understand the role of IL-31 in the pathogenesis of pruritus in these patients. The findings suggested that elevated levels of IL-31 were associated with the severity of pruritus in individuals with chronic kidney disease. This indicated that IL-31 could potentially serve as a biomarker for pruritus severity in CKD patients and might be a target for therapeutic intervention. The study provided insights into the underlying mechanisms of CKD-aP, contributing to the development of more effective treatments.
