TLDR Nutritional supplements may help improve hair growth in female pattern hair loss.
The study reveals that intermediate hair follicles (iHFs) in patients with Female Pattern Hair Loss (FPHL) exhibit nutrient insufficiency and a quiescent metabolic profile compared to terminal hair follicles (tHFs). Despite their ability to absorb nutrients, iHFs show reduced levels of essential metabolites and lower metabolic activity, including decreased aerobic glycolysis and altered glutamate metabolism. The research suggests that nutritional supplementation could be a beneficial adjunct therapy for FPHL, highlighting the potential role of essential amino acids and vitamins in improving hair growth. The study involved 13 FPHL patients and 6 healthy donors.
