    The study characterized cell cycle arrest and terminal differentiation in human hair follicle matrix keratinocytes, focusing on the role of CIP/KIP family proteins (p21CIP1, p27KIP1, and p57KIP2). These proteins regulated cell cycle progression, arrest, and differentiation, with p21CIP1 and p27KIP1 persisting in post-mitotic keratinocytes and p57KIP2 becoming nuclear. The expression of these proteins coincided with reduced cell cycle activity markers, indicating a post-mitotic state. The findings suggested that CIP/KIP proteins support cell cycle arrest, differentiation, and anti-apoptotic pathways, promoting continuous hair bulb growth and hair shaft formation. The study used samples from 23 patients and highlighted the HF as a model for studying cell cycle physiology in human epithelial cells.
