Combination of Adipose-Derived Stem Cell Conditioned Media and Minoxidil for Hair Regrowth in Male Androgenetic Alopecia: A Randomized, Double-Blind Clinical Trial
August 2023
in “Stem Cell Research & Therapy”
TLDR Using adipose-derived stem cell media with minoxidil may help regrow hair in men with hair loss.
A randomized, double-blind clinical trial involving 37 male participants aged between 25 and 59 years old with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) was conducted to study the effects of adipose-derived stem cell conditioned media (ADSC-CM) combined with minoxidil on hair regrowth. The participants were divided into two groups: one receiving concentrated ADSC-CM and the other non-concentrated ADSC-CM. Both groups showed significant increases in hair count, hair density, and mean thickness after 6 weeks, with a decrease in vellus rate proportional to the increase of terminal rate. No significant differences were found between the two treatment groups. The study concluded that the combination of ADSC-CM and minoxidil could be a potential agent for hair regrowth, with minimal side effects reported. Further research with larger populations and longer durations is suggested to confirm the exact mechanisms of ADSC-CM on hair growth.
