TLDR Botox can help prevent hair loss by blocking cell death in scalp cells.
The research investigated how Botulinum toxin type A (BTXA) can alleviate androgenetic alopecia (AGA) by inhibiting cell death in dermal papillary cells (DPCs) caused by dihydrotestosterone (DHT). The study found that BTXA prevented cell death in DPCs treated with DHT. Overexpression of circ_0135062 negated BTXA's protective effect on DHT-treated DPCs. The study also discovered that miR-506-3p interacts with Bax to inhibit cell death in DPCs by suppressing Bax expression in response to DHT damage. Additionally, circ_0135062 acted as a sponge for miR-506-3p, preventing it from targeting Bax expression. Therefore, BTXA demonstrated a protective effect against DHT-induced DPC damage through the circ_0135062/miR-506-3p/Bax axis.
