TLDR Genetic variants at 20p11 increase baldness risk in Chinese Han people.
This study found that genetic variants at 20p11 confer a risk to androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in the Chinese Han population. The study analyzed five single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in 445 cases and 546 controls and found that the rs2180439 SNP was significantly associated with AGA. The study suggests that the HDAC9 gene may be a new candidate gene for male-pattern baldness. The study also found that the PAX1 gene may confer the AGA-relevant effect at this locus and that a regulatory variant within the associated LD block may modulate its expression through long-range control.
