September 2022 in “Journal of The American Academy of Dermatology” A retrospective single-center pilot study at CEDAVI Derma experts in Monterrey, Mexico, investigated the efficacy of an intensive dutasteride mesotherapy protocol (IDMP) combined with oral minoxidil (OM) compared to OM monotherapy for treating androgenetic alopecia (AGA). The study included 105 patients, with 58 receiving OM monotherapy and 48 receiving OM plus monthly intradermal microinjections of dutasteride. Results showed a statistically significant improvement in the vertex area for the combination treatment group compared to the OM monotherapy group (P ≤ .001). The study concludes that IDMP enhances the effectiveness of OM in treating vertex AGA.
June 2022 in “IP Indian journal of clinical and experimental dermatology” This study compared the efficacy and safety of intradermal platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy and topical minoxidil (5%) fortified with finasteride (0.1%) in treating androgenetic alopecia in 60 male patients over 12 months. Patients were divided into two groups of 30 each. Results showed that in the PRP group, 22 patients (73.3%) experienced 1-25% hair growth improvement, and 8 patients (26.7%) had 26-50% improvement. Similarly, in the minoxidil-fortified group, 21 patients (70%) saw 1-25% improvement, and 8 patients (26.7%) had 26-50% improvement. Both treatments demonstrated comparable efficacy in promoting hair growth.
January 2022 in “Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology” The best way to prepare Platelet-Rich Plasma for hair loss treatment in women is using a digital centrifuge, large sodium citrate tubes, and low speed spinning. This method is safe and effectively increases hair thickness and growth.
December 2018 in “Вестник Российской Военно-медицинской академии” The study investigated the clinical efficacy of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in treating 22 men with androgenic alopecia. Patients received intradermal PRP injections over 4 sessions at 4-week intervals. Results showed significant improvements: hair density increased by 11%, average hair diameter by 10%, and a 14% decrease in the proportion of vellus hair. Histological analysis revealed a 148% increase in hair follicle density at the bulb level and a 65% increase at the sweat gland level. Additionally, there was a 47% reduction in telogen hair. These findings indicated that PRP therapy led to significant morphofunctional changes in hair follicles, supporting its clinical efficacy in treating androgenic alopecia.

December 2022 in “Journal of Investigative Dermatology” This study challenges the claim that fully miniaturized vellus (V) hair follicles (HFs) in androgenetic alopecia (AGA) cannot reconvert to terminal (T) HFs, even with therapy. Using a novel humanized AGA mouse model, biopsies from 10 male AGA patients were transplanted onto SCID/beige mice, which were then treated with either 5% topical minoxidil (MXL) or intradermal platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for 4 months. Quantitative histomorphometry showed a significant decrease in V and intermediate HFs and an increase in T HFs in treated transplants compared to donor scalp skin (p<0.05, p<0.01). This suggests that V-T reconversion is possible in long-standing AGA, promoted by both MXL and PRP, although intermediate HFs may be more responsive to reconversion than fully miniaturized V HFs, highlighting the importance of early intervention in AGA management.
