TLDR Platelet-rich plasma therapy can reduce hair loss and enhance hair growth in androgenetic alopecia patients, with no side effects observed.
In 2014, a study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) as a treatment for androgenetic alopecia. The study involved 15 patients, 9 males and 6 females, aged between 21 and 58 years, with an average age of 40.2 years. The patients had been suffering from the disease for an average of 6.5 years. The treatment involved intradermal injections of PRP at 2-month intervals, with the number of procedures ranging from 1 to 4, averaging 2. After a 12-month observation period, a positive trend was observed in the form of reduced hair loss and enhanced hair growth, especially in patients who received more than 3 treatments. No side effects were noted during or after the treatment. The study concluded that PRP therapy showed promising results in treating androgenetic alopecia, but suggested further extensive controlled studies to understand its influence on hair structure.
