TLDR Mesotherapy with bicalutamide has limited effectiveness for female hair loss.
This pilot study evaluated the efficacy and safety of mesotherapy with bicalutamide 0.5% for treating female pattern hair loss (FPHL) in four Latin-American women aged 31-47. Each patient received five monthly intradermal injections. Results showed stabilization in the mid scalp and vertex for all patients, with only one patient showing improvement in the frontal area. No major side effects were reported, though pain was significant. The study concluded that mesotherapy with bicalutamide had limited efficacy as a monotherapy for FPHL, and further research with larger sample sizes and control groups is needed to better understand its potential.

Key treatments for hair preservation include minoxidil, finasteride/dutasteride, and microneedling, with additional options like specific shampoos, oils, biotin, zinc, tretinoin, clascoterone, and low-level laser therapy. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, reducing stress, and addressing nutrient deficiencies can also support hair health.
