TLDR Using Platelet Rich Plasma with hair transplants is effective for treating hair loss due to burns.
This research article from June 2022 conducted a prospective clinical study at Benha University Hospitals, involving 20 patients with post burn alopecia. The patients were divided into two groups of 10: Group A received local intradermal Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections one week before hair transplantation and two more injections 2 and 4 weeks postoperatively, while Group B (Control group) underwent hair transplantation only. The study concluded that using PRP in Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is beneficial in treating post burn alopecia. This procedure is less invasive, less expensive, and has less post-operative complications and shorter recovery time than other hair restoration procedures. However, it requires special skills for proper harvesting and inserting of follicular grafts. The operative time and number of sessions were reasonable and convenient to the patients, and complications were mild and acceptable.
