TLDR A woman's large nose growth was initially misdiagnosed, but later confirmed to be giant rhinophyma after full removal and examination.
A 42-year-old woman was diagnosed with giant rhinophyma, a condition characterized by dilated hair follicle pores, keratin-plugged hair follicles, prominent sebaceous glands, and perifollicular inflammation. The initial core biopsy suggested an incorrect diagnosis of perifollicular fibroma, highlighting that preoperative biopsies for giant rhinophyma can be unnecessary and misleading. The excised lesion confirmed the diagnosis, showing features such as intradermal budding of hair follicle basal cells and extensive hypocellular, mildly edematous fibrous tissue.
