TLDR Activated PRP is unnecessary for treating alopecia areata; both activated and non-activated PRP are equally effective and safe.
This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of activated versus non-activated platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in treating alopecia areata. Conducted on 40 subjects divided into two groups, each receiving 4 intradermal injections, the research confirmed that PRP is a safe, effective, and well-tolerated treatment for alopecia areata. Additionally, the study found no statistically significant difference between the outcomes of activated and non-activated PRP, suggesting that activation prior to injection is not necessary. This method is also cost-effective and can be performed in outpatient clinics.
