TLDR Future research on female pattern hair loss should focus on treatment effectiveness, safety, and understanding causes.
This bibliometric study analyzed 488 publications on female pattern hair loss (FPHL) from 1957 to 2024, involving 2,165 researchers and 189 journals. The USA led in both publication output and citations, with significant contributions from China and South Korea. Key institutions included the Egyptian Knowledge Bank and the University of Melbourne. Emerging research hotspots identified were "mechanisms," "management," and "safety," with increasing interest in "scalp," "association," and "telogen effluvium." The study underscores the importance of focusing on treatment efficacy, safety, and understanding underlying mechanisms, suggesting future research should prioritize accurate diagnostics and risk factor exploration.
