TLDR Botulinum toxin A has limited effectiveness for 3 months in treating female pattern hair loss and may reduce scalp oiliness.
The study evaluated the use of Botulinum Toxin A (BTA) in treating Female Pattern Hair Loss (FPHL) in 10 patients. After a single treatment and a 3-month monitoring period, 3 out of 10 patients showed mild hair growth, while the rest showed no change. However, all patients reported an improvement in scalp oil secretion symptoms after 1 month. The study concluded that BTA's effectiveness for treating FPHL is limited to 3 months, but it could be considered for tentative use after effective communication with patients. The study also suggested that combining BTA with other medications like minoxidil could potentially enhance the therapeutic efficacy. The study had limitations, including a small sample size and a short follow-up period, and further research is needed to confirm the long-term efficacy and safety of BTA in treating FPHL.
