Relevance of Topical Application of Minoxidil Laden Nano-Lipid for Hair Growth Enhancement

The study explores the potential of repurposing Minoxidil (MXD) as a topical treatment for hair loss by developing a nanoemulsion (NE) for its transdermal delivery. The optimized MXD-NE formulation, with a nanosize of 83.1 nm, showed a successful in vitro release of 75.6% over 6 hours and exhibited ideal physical properties, including a pH of 5.9, viscosity of 26.7 cP, and drug content of 99.4%. The formula remained stable for 12 months at room temperature and in a refrigerator. In vivo testing on pretreated mice over 28 days demonstrated a significantly faster rate of hair growth, attributed to the nanocarrier's effectiveness in delivering the drug into follicular hairs.
