TLDR Cedrol Nanoemulsion was found to be more effective at promoting hair growth than traditional treatments and had better bioavailability.
The study from March 23, 2021, examined the effects of Cedrol Nanoemulsion (CE-NE) on hair growth in C57BL/6 mice and its bioavailability. The CE-NE had an average particle size of 14.26 nm and showed a 36.7% release after 6 hours at pH 4.0. In vivo, CE-NE at a concentration of 50 mg/mL was more effective in promoting hair growth than both a control ointment and 2% minoxidil, with the CE-NE group displaying the heaviest hair weight (0.54 mg) and longest hair follicles (236.18 µm) after 21 days. Histological analysis revealed that hair follicles in the CE-NE group were predominantly in the anagen phase. Pharmacokinetic data indicated that CE-NE had a 4-fold higher area under the curve (AUC) and a 1.4-fold longer mean residence time (MRT) than the ointment, suggesting better bioavailability. The study involved 10 mice in each group for statistical analysis and concluded that CE-NE significantly promoted hair growth and could be a promising alternative to traditional treatments like minoxidil.
