TLDR Cosmetics with hinokitiol-loaded nanocapsules were found to effectively promote hair growth.
In the 2008 study, researchers found that cosmetic preparations containing hinokitiol-loaded poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) nanocapsules promoted hair growth in C57BL/6 mice. These nanocapsules were included in shampoo and hair tonic formulations and applied daily for 3 weeks. The hair growth effects were comparable to those of a 3% Minoxidil solution, as evidenced by photographs, histological observations, and measurements of integrated density per unit shaved area. The treated groups exhibited 1.5-2 times higher pixel values than the control group, indicating significant hair growth. The study concluded that the PCL nanocapsules containing hinokitiol effectively promoted hair growth, with results supported by visual and histological evidence. The research was funded by LG household & healthcare and declared no conflicts of interest.
