TLDR Different substances can affect how well the skin absorbs minoxidil, a hair loss drug. Caprylic acid helps the skin absorb it the best, followed by propylene glycol and water.
The research investigated how different substances, known as vehicles, affect the skin's absorption of minoxidil, a drug commonly used for hair loss treatment. The vehicles tested were Propylene glycol, water, ethanol, transcutol P, caprylic acid, and Isopropyl alcohol. The study found that all vehicles increased the permeability of minoxidil in rat skin, with caprylic acid showing the highest enhancement in diffusion, followed by propylene glycol and water. The study concluded that the choice of vehicle can significantly impact the effectiveness of minoxidil in treating hair loss, with caprylic acid being the most effective.
