    The review article discusses the role of Heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs) in regulating stem cell fate, particularly in hair follicle cycling. HSPGs interact with growth factors and receptors to regulate pathways such as Wnt, hedgehog (Hh), bone morphogenic protein (BMP), and fibroblast growth factor (FGF), influencing stem cell fate during organ morphogenesis, regeneration, and homeostasis. The hair growth cycle, which includes anagen, catagen, telogen, and exogen phases, is centered on the activation of hair follicle pluripotent cells to differentiate and provide different cell lineages of the hair follicle. The review also explores the potential of targeting HSPGs to address hair loss, providing a dermatological and cosmeceutical perspective.
