Photobiomodulation Promotes Hair Regeneration in Injured Skin by Enhancing Migration and Exosome Secretion of Dermal Papilla Cells

    The study investigates the effects of photobiomodulation (PBM) on hair regeneration in injured skin using C57 mice. It was found that while scratched epidermis did not affect hair regeneration, scratched dermis led to hair follicle atrophy and impaired hair regeneration. PBM treatment (655 nm, 3 J/cm² for 10 minutes) significantly enhanced hair coverage and increased the presence of Sox9+ and PCNA+ cells in hair follicles. In vitro, PBM increased the migration but not the proliferation of dermal papilla cells (DPCs) and promoted exosome secretion via the Akt/GSK-3β/β-catenin pathway. The use of an AKT inhibitor blocked these effects, suggesting that PBM promotes hair regeneration through enhanced migration and exosome secretion of DPCs mediated by this pathway.
