Reconstruction of Tissue Engineered Skin Substitute Containing Appendages Using Dermal Papillae Cells and Keratinocytes

TLDR Using dermal papillae cells and keratinocytes in skin substitutes speeds up healing and helps form hair follicles and glands.
The study aimed to reconstruct tissue-engineered skin substitutes with appendages using human dermal papillae cells and keratinocytes. The experimental group involved mixing these cells into a collagen gel, which was then applied to dermal substitutes and cultured. In a test on nude mice, the experimental group showed faster wound healing (2 weeks) compared to the control group (4 weeks) and less wound contraction. Notably, hair follicles and sebaceous glands developed in the experimental group by 6 weeks post-transplantation. The study concluded that incorporating dermal papillae cells and keratinocytes into dermal substitutes was a promising method for creating skin substitutes with appendages.
