TLDR Erbium lasers improve hair growth in androgenetic alopecia with minimal side effects.
This systematic review assessed the efficacy and safety of erbium lasers, specifically Er: YAG and erbium: glass lasers, in treating androgenetic alopecia (AGA) across 12 studies with 344 patients. Both laser types effectively improved hair density, growth rate, and thickness. Erbium: glass lasers were more effective when combined with treatments like minoxidil or Platelet-rich plasma. Er: YAG lasers also showed promising results, though patient satisfaction and aesthetic outcomes varied. The safety profile was generally favorable with minimal adverse effects. However, variability in treatment protocols and patient responses suggests a need for further research.
