TLDR Adding a 5 W CO2 laser to the Er:YAG laser improved bleeding control without harming hair growth or causing damage.
This study compared hair transplantation techniques in 10 men with androgenetic alopecia using Er:YAG laser, Er:YAG/CO2 laser at low (5 W) and high (10 W) power, and standard punch methods. The addition of a 5 W CO2 laser to the Er:YAG laser improved hemostasis without significantly affecting mean hair counts or increasing lateral thermal damage. However, the high-power CO2 laser (10 W) resulted in slightly lower hair counts at 3 months and significantly lower counts at 6 months, along with increased lateral damage. Overall, the 5 W CO2 laser addition was beneficial for hemostasis without adverse effects on hair growth or damage.
