TLDR Platelet-rich plasma injections significantly improve hair density and thickness in both male and female pattern hair loss, especially in early stages.
In 2019, a study was conducted on 51 male and 42 female patients suffering from male pattern hair loss (MPHL) and female pattern hair loss (FPHL) respectively, to assess the effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment for androgenic alopecia (AGA). After 6 monthly sessions of PRP injections, there was a significant improvement in hair density, thickness, and hair pull test results for both MPHL and FPHL patients. The treatment was particularly effective for patients with lower levels of alopecia (Grade II and III in MPHL and Grade I in FPHL). Despite some limitations such as a small sample size and short follow-up period, the study concluded that PRP injections can be recommended as an effective therapy for varying grades of hair loss in MPHL and FPHL patients.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

There is no natural way to stop hair loss; pharmaceuticals like minoxidil, finasteride, and RU58841 are the only effective treatments. Some users report success with minoxidil and microneedling, while others discuss the side effects of finasteride.
