TLDR α-Phellandrene may help prevent hair loss by increasing growth factors and cell growth in hair cells through a specific signaling pathway.
The study demonstrates that α-phellandrene increases cAMP levels in human dermal papilla cells (DPCs), leading to enhanced cell proliferation and elevated vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) levels through the cAMP/PKA/CREB pathway. The effects were nullified by a cAMP inhibitor, confirming the pathway's role. These findings suggest that α-phellandrene could be a promising agent for promoting hair growth by enhancing DPC proliferation and VEGF production.
