    GlossaryLanger's lines (skin lines)

patterns of skin tension that guide surgical incisions

Langer's lines, also known as cleavage lines or skin tension lines, are patterns of collagen fibers in the skin that indicate the natural orientation of the skin's connective tissue. Surgeons often use these lines as guides for making incisions, as cuts made parallel to Langer's lines tend to heal better and produce less scarring.
