TLDR The vertical method is better for assessing scalp mobility, providing more hair for transplant.
The study compared the effectiveness of horizontal and vertical methods in assessing scalp mobility for hair transplant surgery in 15 patients. It found that the vertical method provided a significantly larger donor strip area (49.1 cm² vs. 42.0 cm²) and more hairs (6762.5 vs. 5792.8) than the horizontal method, with a 12.8% increase in width and 969.7 additional hairs available for harvesting. These results were supported by another study, and the importance of measurement level was emphasized due to the influence of anatomical structures.
