    GlossaryGranulomatous Inflammation

immune system forms cell clusters to isolate persistent irritants

Granulomatous inflammation is a type of chronic inflammation where the immune system forms small clusters of cells called granulomas to wall off substances it perceives as foreign but cannot eliminate. These granulomas are often seen in conditions like tuberculosis, sarcoidosis, and certain fungal infections, and they help contain the spread of the offending agent while the body attempts to neutralize it.
