TLDR Combining minoxidil with microneedling significantly increases hair count for treating hair loss.
This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy of combining topical minoxidil with microneedling for treating androgenetic alopecia compared to using minoxidil alone. The analysis included 10 randomized controlled trials with a total of 466 patients, and 8 studies were included in the meta-analysis. Results showed a statistically significant increase in total hair count (SMD, 1.76; 95% CI, 1.26-2.26; P<0.00001) but not in hair diameter (SMD, 0.82; 95% CI, -0.01–1.65; P=0.05). No scarring or serious adverse events were reported. The findings support the use of combination therapy for hair growth, though further large-scale trials are needed to better understand its impact on hair diameter.
