TLDR Home-use microneedle devices might safely boost 5% minoxidil's effectiveness for hair growth.
The study investigated the efficacy and safety of a home-use microneedle device for treating pattern hair loss in 29 patients divided into three groups: microneedle device only, microneedle device with 5% minoxidil, and 5% minoxidil only. Treatments were conducted twice weekly for 6 months. Results showed improvements in hair count in the combination group, but these were not statistically significant across or within groups. Patient self-assessments favored the combination group, though without significant differences. One patient reported mild, transient pruritus with the microneedle device. The study concluded that the home-use microneedle device might safely enhance 5% minoxidil solution penetration and stimulate hair growth.
