TLDR Deeper microneedling boosts hair growth, with 0.6mm needles and minoxidil being most effective.
Microneedling can promote hair growth in androgenetic alopecia, with deeper microneedling resulting in greater improvement. Combining microneedling with minoxidil resulted in even greater hair growth. The optimal needle depth for microneedling is still uncertain, and more research is needed to determine the best protocol. Microneedling with 0.6mm needles combined with minoxidil was found to be more effective than 1.2mm needles in increasing hair count and thickness for treating androgenetic alopecia in a study of 60 participants. Microneedling at both 1.5mm and 2mm depths can improve hair growth in androgenetic alopecia, but the 2mm depth showed greater improvement in hair density and thickness.
