TLDR Male pattern baldness may be caused by scalp pressure on hair follicles, which increases with age and leads to a cycle of hair loss. This process is not directly determined by genes.
In 2013, Dr. Emin Tuncay Ustuner proposed a theory for the cause of Androgenic Alopecia (AGA), or male pattern baldness, suggesting that the pressure exerted on hair follicles by the weight of the scalp leads to hair loss. As individuals age, the thickness of the subcutaneous fat tissue and the volume of the dermis decrease, increasing the pressure on hair follicles. This pressure increase necessitates more androgen to stimulate hair growth, leading to an increase in 5-alpha reductase enzyme activity, which converts testosterone to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). The increase in DHT then further erodes the subcutaneous fat tissue around the hair follicle, creating a cycle of hair loss. The document also noted that while genetic factors are involved in AGA, no specific gene has been identified, and the increase in DHT is not directly determined by genes.

Creatine may worsen hair loss in some, especially with androgenic alopecia, but evidence is mixed. Some users experience no hair loss when using creatine with minoxidil and finasteride, while others notice increased shedding.

community Why I really believe the tension theory is the cause of MPB

      in Research/Science  70 upvotes 4 years ago
The conversation discusses the tension theory as a cause of male pattern baldness (MPB), suggesting that scalp tension and reduced subcutaneous fat layer contribute to hair loss. Treatments mentioned include Minoxidil, finasteride, microneedling, scalp massages, and Botox.

community Dht kills hair, but no one says why?

      in Finasteride/Dutasteride  40 upvotes 6 months ago
DHT affects hair follicles, contributing to hair loss, but the exact mechanism is unclear. Treatments like finasteride and minoxidil are used to manage hair loss, though they may have side effects and varying effectiveness.

A YouTuber named Kevin, also known as Rider_Of_Roach, who deleted his YouTube channel due to personal attacks and controversy surrounding his views on hair loss treatments. He advocated for FDA-approved treatments like finasteride and minoxidil but faced backlash from those who disagreed with him. The conversation also discusses his past trolling behavior and a lawsuit he filed against a website that published false information about him. Despite some disagreements, many viewers appreciated his research-based content and hope to see him return in the future.
