TLDR Combining microneedling with 2% minoxidil is more effective and safe for treating female pattern hair loss than using minoxidil alone.
This randomized, controlled trial involving 40 Chinese women aged 18-50 evaluated the efficacy of combining microneedling (MN) with 2% minoxidil for treating female pattern hair loss (FPHL). Over 24 weeks, the group receiving both treatments showed significantly higher clinical efficacy (85% vs. 45%), greater reduction in the Sinclair scale, and increased hair counts compared to the minoxidil-only group. Mild adverse reactions were reported, but no serious side effects occurred. The study concluded that MN combined with minoxidil is a more effective and safe treatment for FPHL than minoxidil alone.
