TLDR PRP may improve hair transplant results, but more research is needed.
This systematic review assessed the efficacy of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) as an adjunct to hair transplantation for androgenetic alopecia. Analyzing three studies with 217 participants, the review found that PRP improved outcomes such as hair density, follicle survival, and earlier hair growth initiation. However, variations in PRP preparation, treatment protocols, and outcome measures, along with the lack of standardized evaluation tools, limit the consistency of the findings. While PRP shows potential benefits, further high-quality randomized trials with standardized methods are necessary to confirm its effectiveness.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

Key treatments for hair preservation include minoxidil, finasteride/dutasteride, and microneedling, with additional options like specific shampoos, oils, biotin, zinc, tretinoin, clascoterone, and low-level laser therapy. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, reducing stress, and addressing nutrient deficiencies can also support hair health.

Hair loss treatments discussed include Dutasteride with Ketoconazole, tissue engineering strategies, and androgenetic alopecia therapies. Massage doubles follicular retention, improving treatment effectiveness.

community Losing Hair on Dutasteride? You might have LPP

      in Research/Science  98 upvotes 7 months ago
Men with hair loss might have lichen planopilaris (LPP), which can mimic androgenetic alopecia, leading to misdiagnosis and ineffective treatment with finasteride or dutasteride. Proper diagnosis, including biopsies, is crucial to distinguish between androgenetic alopecia and conditions like LPP.
