TLDR PRP is an effective and safe treatment for female hair loss.
This systematic review and meta-analysis of 21 randomized controlled trials assessed the effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in treating female hair loss, including androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and chronic telogen effluvium (CTE). PRP significantly improved hair thickness (MD = 0.01 mm, p < 0.00001) and hair density (MD = 405.26 hairs/cm², p < 0.00001) compared to control treatments, and reduced the number of hairs pulled during the hair pull test (MD = -3.91, p < 0.00001). The study concluded that PRP is an effective and safe treatment for female hair loss, offering substantial improvements in hair density and thickness, with only mild, transient side effects. Future research is needed to standardize PRP preparation methods and explore long-term effects.
