TLDR PRP can increase hair density in women with hair loss, but more research is needed.
This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in treating female pattern alopecia (FPA). The analysis included 7 studies and found that PRP interventions significantly increased terminal hair density compared to control treatments, with a standardized mean difference of 2.98. However, there was no significant improvement in hair thickness. No major side effects were reported. While the results are promising for increasing hair density, the authors advise caution and suggest that further research with larger and more representative samples is needed to confirm these findings.
