TLDR Platelet-rich plasma is a promising and safe treatment for increasing hair density and thickness in women with chronic telogen effluvium.
The study involved 30 female patients with chronic telogen effluvium (CTE), a common hair disorder, who were divided into three groups to evaluate the safety and efficacy of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment. Two groups received PRP prepared in different ways, and one group received a saline solution as a placebo. After four monthly sessions and a three-month follow-up, the PRP-treated groups showed significant improvement in hair density and thickness, and higher patient satisfaction compared to the placebo group. There was no significant difference in hair improvement between the two PRP preparation methods. No significant local side effects were reported, indicating a good safety profile for PRP therapy. The study concluded that PRP could be considered a promising therapy for CTE patients.
