TLDR Platelet rich plasma treatment is effective for hair loss in both men and women.
The study "Efficacy Differences of Platelet Rich Plasma for Treatment of Androgenetic Alopecia between Men and Women" involved 102 patients and aimed to determine the effectiveness of platelet rich plasma (PRP) in treating androgenic alopecia in both genders. The patients were divided into two groups and received PRP injections monthly for 3 months, with follow-ups at 3 and 6 months. The results were assessed using standard photographs and the Hamilton Norwood scale for men and Ludwig scale for women. The study found that the mean age of female participants was significantly higher than male participants (p < 0.001). However, there was a 100% response rate to PRP treatment for androgenic alopecia in both genders, indicating that sub-dermal PRP injections were effective for both men and women suffering from androgenic alopecia.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

The post and conversation are about a user who made their own Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) for hair loss treatment at home, using their own blood and a centrifuge. The responses vary, with some users supporting the DIY approach to save money, others expressing concern about the safety and effectiveness of the method, and a few joking about the lengths people will go to combat hair loss.
