TLDR miR-877-3p can improve cashmere quality by regulating hair growth in goats.
This study investigated the regulation of miRNAs in the secondary hair follicles of Jiangnan cashmere goats to enhance cashmere quality. Using high-throughput sequencing, 193 differentially expressed miRNAs were identified during various hair follicle cycle stages. The study focused on chi-miR-877-3p, which was down-regulated during the telogen phase, while its target, the IGFBP5 gene, was up-regulated. Validation experiments showed that overexpression of chi-miR-877-3p in dermal papilla cells suppressed IGFBP5 expression and promoted cell proliferation. These findings provided new insights into the hair follicle cycle regulation in cashmere goats.
