TLDR Certain miRNAs play a key role in the growth of cashmere by affecting hair follicle development and regeneration.
The study investigated the role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in secondary hair follicles (SHFs) during the annual cashmere growth cycle in Liaoning cashmere goats, identifying 376 miRNAs, including 38 novel ones. Researchers found 96 miRNAs differentially expressed across growth phases, with miR-143-3p notably repressing Itga6, impacting SHF regeneration and regression. The study highlighted miRNAs' involvement in pathways like Notch, mTOR, ferroptosis, and apoptosis, providing insights into hair follicle biology and potential targets for enhancing cashmere production.
