TLDR Cashmere goats have a hair growth cycle with specific genes regulating growth, regression, and resting periods.
The study on Inner Mongolia cashmere goats revealed that their hair growth cycle consisted of three distinct periods: growth (March-September), regression (September-December), and resting (December-March), with March marking the cycle's start. Transcriptome sequencing and quantitative PCR analysis identified key genes, including KAP3-1, KRTAP 8-1, and KRTAP 24-1, which showed a strong positive correlation with the cashmere growth cycle. These genes' expression was consistent with the cycle, although they followed a specific sequence, indicating their regulatory role in cashmere hair growth changes.
