TLDR Millet seed oil may help hair grow by activating certain cell growth signals.
The study investigated the effects of Millet Seed Oil (MSO) on hair growth, involving 40 male mice. MSO was found to stimulate cell proliferation in human hair follicle dermal papilla cells and increase hair growth in mice. The research also indicated that MSO might be a viable treatment or preventative measure for alopecia through its involvement in β-catenin signaling, a primary therapeutic target for hair loss treatment. MSO increased the expression of β-catenin, a protein that promotes cell proliferation, and activated Wnt/β-catenin and mTORC1 signaling. It also increased the expression levels of cell cycle-related proteins and growth factor genes, which mediate the hair growth cycle. However, the exact mechanism of action of MSO on hair growth has not been fully elucidated, indicating the need for further research.
