TLDR Miliacin with polar lipids helps hair growth and improves hair loss in women.
The document reports on the effects of miliacin encapsulated by polar lipids (MePL) on hair growth, particularly in women with telogen effluvium. A double-blind trial with 65 nonmenopausal women (64 completed the study) showed that 12 weeks of oral MePL supplementation significantly reduced telogen hair density, decreased scalp dryness, and improved hair brightness without significantly affecting anagen density. Ex vivo studies indicated that MePL stimulates cell proliferation in the hair bulb and increases the thickness of the extracellular matrix. Additionally, data from the Leiden Longevity study of 323 middle-aged women suggested an association between low HDL cholesterol and IGF-1 levels with a higher risk of hair loss. MePL is proposed to restore IGF-1 levels, which are important for hair growth, and may enhance hair restoration procedures. A separate clinical study on eyelashes demonstrated that MePL application significantly increased eyelash length. MePL is considered a safe plant extract combination with potential benefits for preventing or limiting hair loss in women, with further studies recommended to confirm these findings and assess the efficacy of both oral and topical applications.
