TLDR Sensitive scalp causes discomfort and hair loss, treated with personalized care.
Sensitive scalp, often linked with hair loss and psychological issues like anxiety and depression, presents with symptoms such as burning, itching, and trichodynia. It can be primary or secondary to conditions like psoriasis. Triggers include stress and topical products. Management involves individualized treatments like pimecrolimus, hyaluronic acid, and mesotherapy with growth factor-rich plasma. Oral minoxidil and corticosteroids are recommended for long-term cases, with a two-week corticosteroid therapy to prevent rebound effects. Additional treatments include oral gabapentin or pregabalin for severe symptoms. The guidelines aim to simplify management while considering contraindications and adverse effects. The authors report no conflicts of interest.
