TLDR Genes affecting wool fiber thickness in Angora rabbits were identified, which could help breed finer wool.
The study analyzed the hair follicle transcriptome of Wan strain Angora rabbits to identify genes regulating wool fiber diameter, finding 2,574 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between coarse and fine wool samples. Key pathways such as ECM-receptor interaction, Wnt signaling, and TGF-β signaling were highlighted. Validation with qRT-PCR confirmed the RNA-Seq results. These findings provide insights into the genetic mechanisms underlying wool fiber characteristics, which could inform breeding strategies for improved wool quality.
