TLDR Prolactin and melatonin can stimulate hair growth in Cashmere goat hair follicles, but melatonin may reduce follicle viability over time.
The study investigated the growth of secondary hair follicles of the Cashmere goat in vitro and their response to prolactin and melatonin. Hair follicles were isolated and cultured in Williams E medium with varying concentrations of prolactin (0-4000 µg/l) and melatonin (0-600 ng/l). DNA synthesis in matrix cells was observed initially but reduced after 96 hours. Both hormones stimulated hair shaft elongation, with maximum growth at 400 µg/l prolactin and 300 ng/l melatonin. Prolactin did not affect follicle viability, while melatonin significantly reduced it after 96 hours.

The conversation discusses the potential role of prolactin in hair loss and mentions treatments like HMI115, mucuna pruriens, Zinc, and B6 P5P for lowering prolactin levels. It also touches on the use of natural compounds and the lack of studies due to funding issues.
